With the rapid development of the internet, carrying out administrative and legal procedures online has become increasingly necessary. As a result, applying technology to management has become a trend in many countries, including Vietnam. This is why the E-visa was introduced, creating a solid foundation for managing immigration-related matters, making the process smoother and more convenient.

1. What is a Vietnam E-Visa?

An E-visa (short for Electronic Visa) is a type of visa issued to foreigners through an electronic transaction system. This is a modern and convenient solution implemented by the Vietnamese Government to attract international visitors and promote tourism development.

Although the term "E-visa" is not officially defined in the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam and related guiding documents, it is essentially a valid visa that acts as a "permit" allowing foreigners to enter and travel within the country.

2. How long is a Vietnam E-Visa valid?

From August 15, 2023, Vietnam's E-visa policy has been officially updated with positive changes, bringing many benefits to international travelers.

The most notable change is that the validity of the E-visa has been extended to a maximum of 90 days, compared to 30 days previously. This allows travelers to explore Vietnam for a longer period without worrying about visa extensions.

In addition, E-visas are now available for single or multiple entries. Travelers can choose the type that best suits their needs, saving both time and costs for those planning to re-enter Vietnam multiple times.

3. Who is eligible to apply for a Vietnam E-Visa?

The Government issued Resolution No. 127/NQ-CP dated August 14, 2023, on granting electronic visas to citizens of all countries and territories, as well as listing international checkpoints that allow entry and exit using E-visas.

Accordingly, Vietnam now grants E-visas to citizens of all countries and territories.

4. Conditions for obtaining a Vietnam E-Visa

• Foreigners must be outside Vietnam and wish to enter the country (E-visas are not issued to those already staying in Vietnam).
• The E-visa is only valid for entry and exit through checkpoints approved by the Vietnamese Government.
• Foreigners who fall under cases specified in Clauses 1, 2, 3, and 4, Article 8 of the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam must apply through sponsoring agencies or organizations via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs instead of applying for an E-visa.
• Passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry, have at least 2 blank pages, and must not be damaged or altered.
• Must not fall under cases prohibited from entry according to Article 21 of the law mentioned above.
